February Florida School Counselor Publication

An excerpt from my latest article on advocating for our profession:

Locally, be a voice for your critical work with students. Introduce yourself to students, parents and staff each year and remind them of your role using a newsletter, blog or brochure. The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) has resources to use to educate school staff and district administrators on the role of a school counselor. FSCA has also posted an Advocacy Presentation that will help guide you through discussions about why school counselors are important to the overall well-being of students.

Read the full article and more in the December Florida School Counselor magazine and see highlights from our state convention.

October Parent Letter:

Dear Parents,  As a part of our developmental school counseling program, we played a classroom guidance game called, Feelings Match.  The object of the game is to help students understand their own feelings as well as the feelings of others.  Feelings words were discussed such as feeling surprised, embarrassed, happy, sad, angry, frustrated, scared, and excited.  In the game, students worked together on teams to match scenario cards to these feelings words and were encouraged to describe a time they felt these emotions.  At home, you can support your child by asking them to share feelings words with you.  Thank you for the tremendous response on the surveys!  Check out my website for future updates and resources.  Expressively,   Beth Jenkins, School Counselor J.
